Bio:

Abilene native Hannah Love creates her fused glass jewelry by heating two or more pieces of glass to temperatures between 1500F & 1800F° in a kiln specifically designed for that purpose. She designs and hand-crafts each piece and then trusts to extreme heat and the properties of molten glass for (mostly) serendiptous outcomes. After the glass is fused it must be annealed or cooled at a consistent and safe rate to guard against cracks and explosions.

Hannah may fire each piece up to five times and in between firings, the jewelry is cold worked. In the cold work stage she cleans and polishes and refines edges using a glass grinder. The entire process--from fusing, thru refining and fire-polishing, to final cleaning and attachment of findings--typically requires some three to five days.

Each piece of art jewelry may be formed from as many as 20 separate pieces of glass arranged in as many as five layers. Hannah sometimes uses mica powder, glass frit (tiny fragments), glass stringers (spaghetti-thin rods) and glass confetti in her work. In addition, she enjoys including dichroic glass in many of her pieces because of the stunning, shimmering light interactions that result. [NASA developed dichroic glass for use in optical filters but the material now has a variety of industrial, commercial and artistic applications.]

Please clean your glass only with a polish cloth (eyeglass cloth is safe), warm water and gentle soap or rubbing alcohol. Window cleaner will leave a residue on the jewelry which may become permanent over time.
